How Discipling Youth and Christian Education Will Transform Our Church

Here in the Georgia-Cumberland Conference, we are serious about growing young disciples. Yes, we invest heavily in Adventist Christian education. Our schools, from pre-K through post-grad, offer a Christ-filled and academically rigorous education. Beyond helping graduates find fulfilling and lucrative careers, we introduce them to the joy of service and a mission bigger than their own happiness.

Local churches sponsor Adventurer and Pathfinder clubs to engage children and youth, equipping them with character qualities and life skills that will stand the test of time—and eternity. Cohutta Springs Youth Camp is passionate about attracting campers for wholesome, outdoor adventure and leading them to make life-transforming decisions for Jesus.

Yet beyond a decision for baptism, young Christ-followers must become mature and reproducing disciples. Mentored and encouraged by more mature members, youth and young adults will discover their gifts and find ways of employing them for the good of God’s church and the world. That kind of fulfilling, rewarding experience will keep all of us, young and old, engaged with God’s end-time message and mission.

During these few days together, I invite you to open God’s Word and your heart to hear anew His message of good news meant specifically for you.

Ty is co-director of Light Bearers and pastor of Storyline Adventist Church in Eugene, Oregon.
